“I have no ambition in this world but one
and that is to be a fireman."
—Edward F. Croker,
Chief FDNY (1899-1911)

Find Your Calling!
Warrenton Rural Vol. Fire Department has multiple opportunities for volunteers to serve the community. There’s a way to serve for every skill set.
Fire Protection
Our primary mission! We are dispatched to over a thousand calls for service annually. We also respond mutual aid with neighboring fire departments in order to have all the equipment and staffing necessary to structure fires, fire alarms, smoke investigations, wires down, and other fire emergencies.
Rescue Operations
Going hand-in-hand with fire protection is Rescue Operations, which includes a wide-array of rescue disciplines such as rope rescue, technical rescue, and vehicle extrication. Warrenton Rural Vol. Fire Dept. has a myriad of rescue equipment and tools from hand tools and power tools to hydraulic rescue tools like the "Jaws of Life."
Medical First Responder
We run hundreds of medical calls per year. In fact, we run far more medical calls than fire calls annually. Most of our firefighters are certified in CPR and are trained in first aid. Some of our members take additional medical classes to become certified as either a NC Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). First Responders respond to medical and trauma calls to provide basic life support care to patients prior to EMS arriving on-scene. First responders also provide manpower for paramedics to assist in moving patients, and to set up landing zones for medical helicopters.
Fire Auxiliary
The Fire Auxiliary supports the fire department by handling non-operational, administrative, logistical, or organizational tasks. They coordinate community outreach programs, staff public education events, and organize fundraisering campaigns.
Junior Firefighters
Designed for youths 12 to 18 years old, junior firefighters learn basic firefighting and rescue skills, and learn CPR and first aid to prepare them for a career in the fire service. Senior members may ride on the fire truck while responding to actual calls and trained junior firefighters are allowed to fight exterior fires under the supervision of a fire officer.
Live-In Firefighters
The Live-In program allows a limited number of our volunteer firefighters to live at the fire station for free in exchange for responding to fire calls. It's like having an apartment at the firehouse! It is an excellent opportunity for single, college-aged firefighters to gain hands-on, real-world experiences and to expand their firefighting knowledge and skills.WRVFD currently has space for two live-in firefighters.
Part-Time Paid Firefighters
To supplement daytime staffing--when most volunteer firefighters are working their paying jobs--we utilize a few paid part-time firefighters. If you are already a firefighter and are interested in employment at Warrenton Rural Vol. Fire Dept., please contact the Fire Chief.
