Fire Apparatus

Over the years, Warrenton Rural Vol. Fire Dept. has utilized several different fire apparatuses.  Most fire trucks have specialized functions to assist firefighters with their missions.

The earliest fire apparatus used by Warrenton Rural Vol. Fire Dept. were actually built by its members, including its first pumper constructed from an old school bus!  Other in-house built pumpers were typically World War II surplus fire trucks with front mounted pumps.  Later they used military surplus ¾-ton trucks with pumps mounted in the beds.  In fact, members built no less than 14 pumpers from 1956 until about 1968 when they began purchasing purpose-built fire trucks.  Even still, WRVFD continued to purchase a few surplus vehicles and used fire trucks, refurbish them, and put them in service through the mid-1970s.  Subsequent fire apparatus were purpose-built fire trucks purchased after numerous fund-raising events.
