Training is an integal part in the life of a Firefighter. From learning basic firefighting skills to advanced rescue techniques, through Fire Officer courses and Fire Chief-101, there's a class for that. At a minimum, firefighters must obtain 36 hours of firefighting training or continuing education per year.
However, learning never stops.
NC Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) must complete an initial 96-hour training course and then at least 16 hours of medical continuing education. NC Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) must complete an initial 240-hour course and 80 hours of medical continuing education every four years.
Fortunately for North Carolina firefighters, training and continuing education is provided at no charge through the NC Community College System, provided you are a member of a fire department.
